Causes of High Blood Pressure
The causes of high blood pressure also know as Hypertension, vary. Causes may include narrowing of the arteries, a greater than normal volume of blood, or the heart beating faster or more forcefully than it should.
Any of these conditions will cause increased pressure against the artery walls. High blood pressure might also be caused by another medical problem.
Most of the time, the cause is not known. Although high blood pressure usually cannot be cured, in most cases it can be prevented and controlled.
High Blood Pressure is Common
Over 60 million American adults have high blood pressure. In the United States, high blood pressure occurs more often in African Americans than in Caucasians. For many people blood pressure increase with age, hence the incidence of high blood pressure is higher with age.
What are the symptoms of Hypertension?
That's part of the problem. Hypertension usually causes no symptoms, so over time, damage to arteries, heart, kidney, and brain can occur before the condition is diagnosed.
